Voice Tract – Droga głosu

22 | dvd case | 2005

Album of the legend of the Polish EBM scene, inspired by research on speech synthesis conducted in the 1920s and 1930s.

Wieloryb built a unique, stretched structure (around Pan Sonic), seasoned with post-industrial and minimal ambient with an electro aftertaste. He used dense walls of sound and trance, sometimes even industrial rhythms. The specific electronic sound of pulsating stains, noise and electrostatic pops that keep growing and evolving complement the prepared vocal parts.

Apparently, "Voice Tract" is a concept album inspired by the experiments with the synthesis of the human voice, which were enjoyed at the beginning of the 20th century. These noble sources, however, do not have any serious influence on the character of the first, and also definitely the last, material of the Tricity Wieloryb. The music that spills out of "Voice Tract" is simply an efficiently presented cross-section of what occupied the duo over the ten years of playing together, only in some spots deepened by references to industrial classics such as Throbbing Gristle or SPK. The story goes on for over an hour, sometimes referring to the threads of classic ambient, sometimes saturating with metallic industrial filings ... but mostly weaving together all the threads of cool, illustrative electronics without falling into genre submission. On the one hand, it all sounds a bit archaic and conservative, on the other, however, it is difficult to deny musicians the ability to build engaging, consistently and very efficiently developing compositions. It is probably only thanks to this that Wieloryb’s farewell turns out well, although at the same time it is clearly audible that the musicians would probably not have come up with anything wise together.
