Konrad Kucz

Nagrania bardzo archiwalne 1989–2004

20 | dvd case | 2004

Documentation of over 20 years of creativity. An inspirational momentum - A. Badalamenti, B.Eno, Tangerine Dream, The Residents ...

Invitation to a rather unusual journey through a piece of Polish electronic music history.
Konrad Kucz is not - as it is disturbingly said today - a "media figure", he is probably the most recognizable one from the Futro group, but for almost 20 years he has been a prolific artist and invariably curious about the world. During this time, he created and published 15 (!) quite varied but consistent materials. A selection of these publications, scattered as well as concert recordings, made up "Nagrania bardzo archiwalne" ("Very archival recordings"). These 27 pieces are more than just a portrait of one artist, but also a guide to the fascinations, enchantments and shallows of Polish electronic fans of this era when the world of analog synthesizers met with digital techniques.
At the end of the 1980s, Kucz started with noisy recordings inspired by industrial. Then there was a fascination with classic electronic music of the 70s: Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno. Finally, full of distance and healthy irony, flirting with techno pop of the 90s. On this path, Kucz quickly marked the ambition of speaking with his own voice, juxtaposing these schools with the themes of folk music of Mazovia and the Tatra Mountains. He referred to Szymanowski, Kilar and Górecki as inspirations. And even when he was preparing hit numbers, he used samples from such records as, for example, "Polski Związek Mikrofalowców - ABC Telegrafii" ("Polish Microwave Association - ABC Telegrafii") or "XXX years of the F. Zubrzycki Civic Militia Road Traffic School 1955-80". This retro avant pop and more dynamic and compact recordings are collected by the first album of the compilation. The second album is a spatial portion of Slavic ambient - delicate and lyrical.
There are no chilling discoveries here, but there is also genuine passion, good humor and noble soothing atmosphere. A collection as colorful as it is impressive.
