Sebastian Wypych

Directions

155 | 2017

A multi-faceted narrative filled with the sound of a double bass.

Full of sound magic, the latest work of the outstanding, classically educated double bassist Sebastian Wypych "Directions" is an unusual, very successful attempt to challenge the author with the canon of universal, timeless values. The composer created a unique story full of emotions about the eternal journey of man from birth to the end. It's a musical metaphor, which is a very personal look at the choices and the decisions we make every day. "Directions" is a laughter accompanying the birth of beauty, a moment of reflection and focused prayer, it is going down to the bottom, to finally see the light and feel the immeasurably joy of relief. The whole space of this intriguing, multifaceted narrative is largely filled with the sound of the double bass, even the smallest harmonic and percussion elements come from the acoustically treated and masterfully used instrument played by Wypych.

To participate in the recording of the album the author invited exceptional guests, the phenomenal Yemeni singer Rasm Al-Mashan and the master of the African kora Buba Kuyateh from Gambia. Its integral element surrounding the presentations are visualizations by Sylwester Łuczak, one of the most interesting Polish Visual artists.
