Nowe Rytmy - Nowa Muzyka 1986-1989

78 | ARCHIVE SERIES 12 | 2012 / 2014

A record of musical experiments and searches by a group of Poznań students, inspired by the psychedelic of the 1960s

Krew Group was established in October 1986 in Poznań and operated until June 1989. It was created by former musicians of the punk rock formation Hands Up: Łukasz Czarny - bass guitar, Artur Stanilewicz - guitar, Remigiusz Cholewicki - drums, Ryszard Gromadzki - vocals and Małgorzata Kurlus - organ. Later, the latter was replaced by Bartosz Ciepłuch and Witold Oleszak. Second vocalist Andrzej Rzepecki and trumpeter Andrzej Łakomy also joined the band.

The musicians who were students of Poznań universities were inspired by the achievements of psychedelic groups from the 1960s. After a few months of rehearsals, at the beginning of 1987, the band made its debut in front of the Poznań audience. The concert was recorded and self-published on a cassette entitled "Crazy Fryc". In the same year, during the performance in Elbląg, material for the second cassette entitled Wild and Nine Stories was created. The group's subsequent releases included concert recordings in Poznań clubs in 1988. Other important performances of the band took place at festivals in Katowice and Świnoujście. The formation also realized studio recordings in amateur conditions.

Krew (“Blood”) was created by students of the faculties of law, history, biology, Polish philology, journalism, architecture and fine arts. The range of areas of interest and collective work had a huge impact on the music they created. The common element of the artistic search was experimenting with rock style. None of the group members planned a musical career, therefore the joint creative process allowed for the rejection of compromises, which resulted in an original and independent artistic statement. Unfortunately, upon graduation, in June 1989, the musicians dissolved the band in a natural way.

The album is an audio recording of the concerts held in 1986 - 1989.
