Chór Katedry Warszawsko-Praskiej MUSICA SACRA
162 | CHORD 01 – EDYCJA II | 2018
The Pie Iesu album is a summary of the cooperation of the MUSICA SACRA Warsaw-Prague Choir directed by Paweł Łukaszewski with Polish composers: nestors and creators of the young generation, who accepted the invitation to compose works for women's choir to the short text of Pie Iesu Domine, dona eis requiem. In European choral literature, we find songs composed for the above text by Gabriel Faure, Maurice Durufle, John Rutter, Andrew Loyd Webber and Karl Jenkins. They are often part of large vocal and instrumental forms, they are extremely well known and recognizable. The desire of those ordering the songs was that Polish choral literature should also be enriched with new works in line with those mentioned above. Several of the compositions presented here were created thanks to the program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage's compositions carried out by IMiT.
According to the record's performers, the contemporary approach of Polish composers: Stanisław Moryto, Marian Borkowski, Marcin Łukaszewski, Łukasz Farcinkiewicz, Marek Raczyński, Michał Malec, Julia Seeholzer, Sebastian Szymański and Paweł Łukaszewski to the topic of the sacred is perfectly combined with the Gregorian chant performed by Joanna Łukaszewska, which creates another, but equally important layer of this album and introduces listeners to the world of Gothic cathedrals and stained glass.
As the author writes about the album - Emilia Dudkiewicz - the album Pie Iesu radiates confidence, peace and inner joy, revealing hope for participation in the land of eternal happiness.
