The Forgotten History of Polish Electro
After years of techno dominance, the beginning of the 21st century brought a return to a more song-oriented form of electronic music. Artists began combining modern club sounds with vocals and traditional song structures, giving rise to a second wave of fascination with electronic music in Poland.
During the first decade of the 21st century, more than 200 bands emerged within the electro scene. Although they operated in different parts of the country, they formed a strongly connected community built on collaboration, shared concerts, and mutual support. For nearly 15 years, this environment developed dynamically, attracting a dedicated audience and creating its own independent identity.
Most releases, however, were self-produced and often appeared in very limited quantities as CD-R editions, sold mainly at concerts. This is why documenting and preserving this phenomenon is so important today – it remains one of the most fascinating, yet least explored chapters in the history of Polish electronic music.
