Księżyc
269 | 2025
A recording of a unique concert held on January 31, 2020, at Dom Polonii in Warsaw, capturing the magic of that evening and the intimate atmosphere of the Zawieje concert series. The album transports the listener into a world of psychedelic minimalism, enriched with folk and Slavic inspirations, full of emotion and subtle intensity. It stands as a symbol of hope, continuity, and an unforgettable journey.
ATTENTION:
The release consists of two discs (featuring the same material): the first produced in a standard stereo mix, and the second in a binaural mix system – most likely the first album in Poland to be created using binaural mixing technology (a special form of spatial recording optimized for headphone listening).

A few words from the album’s co-creator:

Marek Ołdak – sound director, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and sound designer; co-creator of recordings and albums by bands including Księżyc and Super Girl & Romantic Boys. As a musician, he has performed live with projects such as Za Siódmą Górą, Małe Instrumenty, and Księżyc/Brodka.
“When I began working on the mix of Księżyc’s concert, the sonic afterimages of that extraordinary event were still resonating in my ears — a meeting of three remarkable elements: the uniqueness of Księżyc’s performances, the space of Warsaw’s Dom Polonii, and the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of Zawieje, a concert series featuring artists associated with Requiem Records.
As it happened, at the same time, spatial audio recording and playback techniques were reaching the final stage of another (r)evolution — this time under the banner of Dolby Atmos and, more broadly speaking, immersive audio.
It wasn’t difficult for me to connect the dots, and thanks to that I have the pleasure of presenting to listeners and fans not only a traditional stereo recording of the concert, but also its binaural version.
What is it? A spatial version of the recording designed for headphone listening, allowing the sound image to be reproduced not only in the two-dimensional “left-center-right” plane, but also “up-down” and even “front-back.” This is made possible through the simulation of psychoacoustic phenomena such as phase shifts, micro-delays, and subtle tonal differences between the signals delivered to each ear; headphones, in turn, allow for their complete isolation.
Just as spatial vision requires only a pair of eyes and the processing of two images into one with a third dimension, so these delicate differences between the sound received by the left and right ear expand the sound image into the panorama surrounding us.
I hope that thanks to these efforts we will be able to relive this concert many times, discovering new reasons for amazement with each listening — which I sincerely wish for myself and for listeners everywhere.”

A few words from the album’s co-creator:

Barbara Komanieckia – a resident of Tarnobrzeg (Poland), a printmaker specializing in intaglio techniques. She is currently completing her PhD at the Doctoral School of the University of Rzeszów (Fine Arts and Conservation of Artworks). Author of solo exhibitions and participant in numerous group shows in Poland and abroad, she also collaborates with publishing houses and magazines.
""Księżycowa" music often accompanies me while I work, so the appearance of ‘Hansel’ and ‘Gretel’ on the cover of the album Zawieje is a fantastic experience.
The works are two intimate prints from 2017, which remain among my favorites. Kept in a restrained, raw tonality, they focus on children’s faces combined with fantastical elements – horns and animal ears. Through this device, I wanted to move the images beyond realism, directing them toward fairy tale, myth, or dream. The figures balance between innocence and unease, and the contrast between delicate features and ‘non-human’ attributes builds tension and a sense of otherness. The works can be read as a reflection on identity, growing up, and the boundary between what is familiar and what is wild and instinctual.”
