Archive Series is a unique project, created in order to save big potential of 70’s 80’s and 90’s music from oblivion. We reissue and very often release for the first time Polish independent records. Their artistic value is invaluable and in many cases unknown so our decision was to protect it against passage of time.
What is fascinating about the archive works is that they were made a few decades ago but can not be easily classified as archive records. They can still surprise us with their novelty, evoke feelings, emotions and even for that reason we don’t want them to vanish in a mass of contemporary music. At the time when the presented archive works were made there were no computers or computer software tools to make music and digital editing was not available. And despite that the artists of that time built their own instruments, necessary equipment, generators, made loops and samples with analogue tape. Archive Series project has been released to pay tribute to the people who made music in those difficult times.
Our aim is not only to dust the archive recordings but also to enrich the series with a sound music knowledge. The spirit of that time has been reflected not only in music – subsequent releases include biographies, interviews, memories and anecdotes. In the age of digital music when sales of physical carriers for music are going down with every year, Requiem Records puts emphasis on the value of the edition – every part is a well thought out, graphically designed and produced concept – an item you can take in your hands and treat as a a collector’s item.
The idea behind Archive Series can be summed up in two sentences:
If not us – then who?
If not now – then when?
We carry out this project as we feel it’s our mission to document what shouldn’t be forgotten in Polish music history. Archive Series presents music which is a part of our culture, our national, cultural achievement that deserves to be immortalized.
