Vocal Varshe & Jacaszek
V 12 | 163 | 2018
The project was inspired by reliefs of the outstanding American abstract artist Frank Stella and pre-war photos and drawings of wooden synagogues. From the crumbs of the world that no longer exists, an innovative work was born, full of ethereal music, mystical emotions and sounds that permeate time. A phenomenal, electroacoustic landscape was created - the musicians combined synagogue compositions, ghetto songs, niguns - Hasidic prayers without words as well as traditional and folk melodies performed in Poland during occasional meetings and the most important holidays in Judaism, with the electronics of Michał Jacaszek and the cello parts of Anna Śmiszek-Wesołowska.
Heaven's Gates is a story leaning behind the veil of history about a world that is gone and universal values that have always existed. Heaven's gates were created especially for the 7th edition of the New Jewish Music Festival with the support of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and the premiere took place on April 14, 2016.
In May 2018, the "Heaven's Gate" project won the Grand Prix of the 21st Polish Radio Folk Festival - New Tradition. From July 2018, the band performs under the name Vox Varshe feat. Jacaszek. In October 2018, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews officially premiered the 'Heaven's Gate' album.
