Agressiva 69
V 15 | 180 | ARCHIVE SERIES 18 | 2019
One of the first representatives of industrial rock. Re-edition of the cassette from 1993.
AGRESSIVA 69 celebrated a quarter of a century since its debut beautifully and elegantly releasing a yellow vinyl. The sound has been remastered, so the whole album sounds more modern. Does it have to? Already at the time of release, at the end of 1993, they were unique on the Polish market. At first the music appeared only on tape, three years later also on compact disc.
Do you remember the months between autumn 1991 and the end of 1993? Grunge has taken over the music, it has become a mainstream that renewed the pretty stagnant rock. In Poland, the majority of young boys also dressed in flannel shirts, grabbed guitars and with better or worse results (usually worse) imitated Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.
However, not everyone went this way. The AGRESSIVA 69 team, founded by Tomek Grochola and Jacek Tokarczyk, was already active in Krakow. They listened to Young Gods, Ministry or Einstürzende Neubauten and wanted to play like their champions. With their own money they recorded an album and sent it to SPV, a large German label, which was one of the first West European companies to set up a branch in Poland. They also sent a cassette to Jarocin, then the most important Polish music festival and, despite enormous interest (almost 350 bands entered the competition, which was a record in the history of the festival), they qualified for the Big Stage. They did not escape the criticism of Walter Chełstowski, one of the festival's directors, who as the only member of the jury was against the band's performance and led to the fact that instead of the 15 minutes given to the young band, AGRESSIVA 69 played half the time. Despite this, a regular pogo took place under the stage. "We extended the performance by a minute, but today I regret that after eight minutes, when people had a great time, I did not stop and did not say that Mr. Chełstowski only gave us so much time to perform. Maybe people would object? ", Recalls Tomek Grochola, the band's frontman.
