Sketches
For several years of working on albums, film and theater soundtracks, I’m left with a lot of interesting music, unused sketches with great potential. I started to work on this material, and completely new things were created at the same time. A coherent whole was slowly clearing up - over a dozen instrumental pieces with a large share of guitars and electronics.
Lyrics
some time ago in a bookstore I saw the title "Anthology of English Metaphysical Poetry of the 17th Century", translated by Barańczak. I was deeply touched by beautiful and simple poetry about passing, longing, paradise and love. Robert Herrick's poems, gentle hymns about a dying nature had a special charm, and their simple verse rhythm gave the idea to use them in my music.
Vocals
I met Hania Malarowska while working on music for Eliza Kubarska's film "Baltoro Passage".
The director asked for a song to be composed and suggested the lyrics and performer. Hania - the vocalist and leader of the band Hanimal - arranged and recorded the vocal part. The melancholic timbre of her voice and the ease with which she put the words into the melodies fascinated me. Soon Hania adapted and sang Herrick's poems. The effect exceeded my expectations.
Album
"Flowers" are therefore the result of combining three elements that came into existence at a similar time. The instrumental background, lyrics and vocals have been merged into song-like forms and turned into a coherent whole. I am very pleased with the sound of "Flowers", especially because of the unique vocals and the quality of the lyrics.
The album was released by the American publishing house Ghostly International, the Polish edition is being issued by Requiem Records.
