Immortal Onion
148 | 2017
The creation of the band was inspired by artists such as Esbjörn Svensson, Hiromi Uehara and Tigran Hamasyan. Classifying the music of Immortal Onion turns out to be a challenge, because the band's musicians are not afraid to refer to many genres in their work. In their works you can hear influences, among others jazz, film music, minimalism, fusion, electronic music and even progressive metal. Despite such a large divergence of styles in which they revolve, they managed to create their own recognizable language. They owe their characteristic sound to the skillful combination of energetic rhythmically complicated fragments with minimalistic, trance motifs and lyrical themes.
The band was formed in spring 2016. As the winners of the 6th edition of the "Jazz phonographic debut" program organized by the Institute of Music and Dance and the Cultural Scholarship of the City of Gdańsk this year they release their first album "Ocelot of Salvation", which will premiere on July 6 at the Warsaw festival Summer Jazz Days 2017. The trio had the opportunity to perform at the 41st Gdynia Film Festival with an original soundtrack for two films: at the 2nd International Animated Film Festival in Gdańsk and at the 17th Silent Cinema Festival at the Pod Baranami Cinema in Krakow.
