Diakof

Piloty 2

21 | dvd case | 2005

Electronics from Morr Music (Lali Puna, Isan). Sometimes aggressive and crackling, sometimes full of rock expression.

Diakof, previously known for example from the indie rock group Svoboda, has been creating strictly electronic music for several years, oscillating between experimental and pop genres. The other side of his musical sensitivity is expressed by Diakof on the album "Piloty 2", which has just been released by the Requiem label. As usual in the case of this label's releases, the cover itself tells us a lot about the mood of the whole material. It is no different in the case of Diakof.

"Piloty 2" is a material that rubs against pop sounds - of course in the most valuable sense of the word. Using electronic instruments, Diakof tries to compose simply catchy songs or hit [let’s not be afraid of the word] songs that, with a little effort, could also be appreciated by a less demanding listener. Diakof is doing everything he can to extract from - after all - the automatons as much heat and life as possible; Everything takes on pastel colors of avant-pop laziness, and the author's voice - perhaps not overwhelming, but suitably warm and melancholic - completes the image of "Two Pilots" as a casual, relaxing material. Moreover, there are two real hits on this album. We are talking about the title track, which, released as a single, could possibly have a chance to make itself at home on commercial radio stations. The second highlight of this album is the track "Potwory" (“Monsters”), a nostalgic text with a very nice, endearing melody. And even Diakof's voice raises no objections here. A brilliant piece. The rest of the material - in a very similar air. Everything gives the impression of some production and climatic acrobatics: there are no acoustic sounds here, but sometimes the atmosphere of the songs is very warm, sometimes even - pub-y, smoky. Diakof skillfully arranges his compositions, combining elements of the aforementioned avant-pop, trip-hop or sounds known from the latest productions of German Morr Music. So the acrobatics are successful, although sometimes we will experience a slight hesitation, for example when some too synthetic sound, beat or sample happens here and there. The album also features two remixes, made by the Swedish Cellular [and for this reworking of the song "Ciii jeżyk śpi" ("Shhh the hedgehog is sleeping"), on which we can easily put down the veil of silence] and "our" C.H.District [who remixes the greatest hit here - "Piloty 2"].

The album is released by Reqiem Records, Diakof himself also records for the French label M-Tronic, where he released a joint project with the aforementioned Cellular - "Chemical Elements 2". With the album "Piloty Dwa", the artist presents his brighter, lighter inspirations, gives us material to which we will return more than once - in moments of laziness or dreaming; i.e. for "Potwory".
