Wieloryb
V 13 | 164 | ARCHIVE SERIES 16 | 2018
A juicy dose of the best Polish EBM. Re-edition of a cassette from 1994.
The Wieloryb band was formed in 1994. It was then composed of Paweł Kmiecik, Robert Suszko and Maciej Żabczyński. At that time, Gdańsk artists were part of the electro-industrial trend, whose icons are D.A.F., Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and Skinny Puppy.
Wieloryb on his first cassette "1" (1994) proposed the original version of Electro Body Music (EBM), and threw down the recordings of the genre's classics with wild aggression and uncompromising nature. With all its radicalism, the songs filling the cassette were characterized by carrying capacity rare in this type of music. This is probably why the band's debut achieved artistic success, including the nomination for the Fryderyk Music Award in 1994. The material was never released on CD or on vinyl. The small issue spread and gained cult status in alternative circles very quickly.
After almost a quarter of a century, "1" finally appears on vinyl and CD in the scrupulous reissue by Requiem Records and masterful mastering by Marcin Bociński. The debut of Wieloryb has kept the original, thrifty layout in the new edition.
