Throbbing Wafle
98 | 2015 Title withdrawn
Probably the first ever "tribute band" (or "cover band") of an industrial group. A conceptual project (created in 2009) of members of the now defunct MIKROWAFLE group. In principle, as is the case with groups that imitate, for example, THE BEATLES - the artists play the original characters and recreate mostly original songs of the THROBBING GRISTLE group. However, the phenomenon is unprecedented, as the subject of the incarnation is unusual: this play is not "pretty" or "polite" as it is commonly understood. We can call it "the art of mystification" or "a dash of camouflage".
The appearance of THROBBING GRISTLE in the early 70s of the last century was quite fundamental for the development of the contemporary musical avant-garde, especially its fraction under the broadly understood term "industrial music" or "noise-music", but also for extreme (exterminating) performance art, the aftermath of the KAMP era and the Viennese Actionists. T.G. has made a mark on many people's lives, as it did on us in our youth. The implementation of the project has therefore become a mandatory consequence of our interests and penetration.
It can be concluded that the project is clear and understandable for this narrow group of recipients who associate THROBBING GRISTLE at least by name, but at the same time draw the attention of those interested to the significance of these known precursors and phenomena.
The THROBBING WAFLE project is not, however, a faithful imitator (imitator) of T.G. (as is the case with the groups following THE BEATLES). THROBBING WAFLE focuses on the early achievements of the old T.G. (from the 1970s-1980s) - because they like it the most ... However, they use modern equipment (which you could only dream of in the 1970s) and HD video technology. There are also their own inclusions, straight from MIKROWAFLE. This is a kind of another provocation, because THROBBING WAFLE is also a light irony and sarcasm about the contemporary, very seriously understood "industrial scene" (which even its creators opposed).
THROBBING WAFLE does not appear in music clubs, but only in galleries, cinemas, theaters, large factory spaces. They penetrate extreme art: shock, provocation and experimental. Electricity, sex, magic, religion, hypnosis and, above all, pulsation.
The first performance - the birth of THROBBING WAFFLE - "Birth" - took place at the international Audio Art festival in Gdynia (Musical Theater, November 28, 2009). The second - "Death" - at the Manhattan Gallery in Łódź, in 2011, was dedicated to the late Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, a member of Throbbing Gristle, who will never appear in the original line-up since then.
The last, so far, third concert-performance took place at the opening of the exhibition "Myth and Melancholy" at the Modern Museum in Wrocław (2012).
