Compared to organ or piano literature, the list of accordion compositions is very short. Fortunately, in the last twenty years, many concerts, solo and chamber works, as well as arrangements for the main character of the Accordiofonica album have been written. The 20th-century compositions collected in the album show the great technical and timbre possibilities of the instrument, as well as its interesting connection with the orchestra.

 

The album includes three pieces: Suite for accordion and string orchestra by Józef Świder, Concerto classico by Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski and Concerto for accordion and string orchestra "L'estro Fisarmonico" by the living composer Edward Sielicki. They were all performed by the soloist Klaudiusz Baran and the Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra. Witold Lutosławski in Łomża under the direction of Jan Miłosz Zarzycki.

 

The main character of this Album has great advantages and possibilities; perhaps some of them have yet to be discovered. Despite its many advantages, this instrument is still much less on stage than the violin or the piano. The accordion also occasionally presents itself with an orchestra. The virtues of the instrument shown on the album can become a new source of inspiration for both composers and performers. Will accordion chamber literature soon be enriched with new and interesting songs? Will the vibrations of the reeds shimmering with the colors of the rainbow inspire other composers? Will the various combinations of the soloist and the ensemble finally enliven the imagination of the audience? Time will tell, but the friendly name of the accordion (German - harmonious sound) evokes hope for all music lovers.

The Witold Lutosławski Chamber Philharmonic in Łomża was founded in 1977 as the Łomża Chamber Orchestra. In less than 40 years of its existence, it has given over 1,200 concerts in the country and abroad. It also received many awards for its activity and contribution to the development of musical culture. By the resolution of the City Council in Łomża on October 29, 2008, it was renamed to Witold Lutosławski Chamber Philharmonic in Łomża.

The directors of the orchestra were in turn: Mieczysław Szymański, Henryk Szwedo and Tadeusz Chachaj, who, leaving his position, received the a honorary title of the 1st conductor from his successor. Since 2004, Jan Miłosz Zarzycki has been working as the general and artistic director of the Philharmonic.

Witold Lutosławski Chamber Philharmonic in Łomża hosted many excellent soloists, including Eugen Indjic, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Wiesław Ochman and Piotr Paleczny. Behind the conductor's stand were the masters of the baton: Tomasz Bugaj, Pierangelo Gelmini, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marek Pijarowski, Peder Rensvik, Jerzy Salwarowski, Józef Wiłkomirski, N. Arman, R. Silva.

The Philharmonic from Łomża took part in many prestigious music festivals, incl. Kristiansund Kirke Kunst Kulturfestival (Norway), Klaipeda Music Spring (Lithuania), Užutrakio Vakarai Festival in Trakai (Lithuania), Song from Solca Festival in Soleczniki (Lithuania), the International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music "Cantata" in Giżycko, the Moniuszko Festival of Podlasie and Operetta and Opera Festival in Mazovia. They also performed as part of the 1st Warsaw Tenor Tournament (Sala Kongresowa), Thursday concerts at the National Philharmonic, Royal Concerts in Wilanów and during the final stage of the 6th International Piano Duo Competition in Białystok. The orchestra strengthens Polish cultural traditions in the border region by performing in Lithuania and Belarus (Grodno). In 2009, FKWL went on a concert tour of France and in 2012 they toured Norway.

The Łomża Philharmonic has ten albums, including three - nominated for the FRYDERYK award of the Polish phonographic industry.

 

Witold Lutosławski Chamber Philharmonic in Łomża is the organizer of the International Chamber Music Festival "Sacrum et Musica", the first edition of which took place in 2005.
