Neo Temporis Group

Dialog bez granic

123 | OPUS 8 | 2016

NEO TEMPORIS GROUP is the first Polish-Ukrainian ensemble of contemporary music, initiated by the NeoQuartet string quartet from Tricity specializing in contemporary music and the Ukrainian Ensemble Nostri Temporis. The idea of the group is to build a transnational cultural bridge between Poland and Ukraine, mutual inspiration, permeating on the basis of artistic ideas, searching for new qualities in art, where nationality or the education system in which we have been shaped does not matter. The idea of establishing the NeoTemporis Group is a grassroots initiative launched during the Ukrainian Biennale of New Music in 2013.

The ensemble debuted in 2014 at the Warsaw Autumn festival, performing four compositions specially written by Polish and Ukrainian composers. The concert was repeated in October 2014 in Gdańsk during the NeoArte Spectrum of New Music festival and in the Lviv Philharmonic at the Contrast International Contemporary Music Festival. In 2015 the band ordered another composition, this time from Max Kolomiiets. The premiere took place in October 2015 in Lviv, and the subsequent performances of the piece in Gdańsk and Krakow.

In April 2016, Neo temporis Group toured Ukraine. It included performances in four cities - Lviv, Kiev, Ivano-Frankivsk and Odessa. The concert program includes four pieces by Polish composers (Sławomir Kupczak, Karol Nepelski, Dariusz Przybylski, Jerzy Kornowicz) and four pieces by Ukrainian composers (Oleksij Shmurak, Bohdan Sehin, Max Kolomiiets, Zoltan Almashi). The ensemble was conducted by Łukasz Wódecki, and each concert was preceded by a lecture by music critic Monika Pasiecznik. During their stay in Lviv, the group registered the material during a recording session in the concert hall of the Lviv Philharmonic.
