Kwartludium + Dariusz Przybylski

Hammond Organ Project

94 / V 06 | OPUS 5 | 2015

Five original compositions for Hammond organ and the Kwartludium ensemble in an excellent live recording of the concert during the Musica Polonica Nova Festival.

The unique analog sound, very warm, rich and ear-catching - this is the most important feature of this instrument that triumphed in jazz music of the 1960s and 1970s. This time, however, the Hammond organ was used in the latest project by Dariusz Przybylski and the Kwartludium ensemble. Four composers were invited to carry out the order, the fifth piece was composed by Dariusz Przybylski. Each of the composers had a different idea of using the sound of analog organs in combination with acoustic instruments. The effect is often surprising.

For a long time, the idea of our cooperation appeared in conversations with the members of the Kwartludium ensemble. I have been associated with the band since 2008, when I composed Medeas Träume for it. The idea for the Hammond organ came from me and it was immediately approved by the team. I think this instrumental combination is quite peculiar and at the same time the organ brings some retro element to the music. And it is this "retro" element that became the keynote of the album's release in the form of a vinyl record!
